Biophysical/label-free methods are becoming important tools in lead finding and drug discovery and are complementing more classical assay technologies. Today a collection of long-standing, "gold-standard" label-free methods is augmented by novel and often higher throughput techniques, presenting both an extensive, but also confusing landscape of biophysics tools for drug discovery.

 

A key question is how to enable the efficient and more systematic use of a biophysics portfolio in early drug discovery programs. Ultimately they are expected to offer not only novel ways of hit finding, but also more efficient ways to identify and advance the best hits for chemistry and later stage biology.

 

In the focus of this short course are the biochemical biophysics assay applications that allow the detection, quantification and qualification of ligand/protein binding events.

Publishing achievements in western scientific journals can be a professional priority and a personal challenge for many prospective authors.  In this short course, the SLAS publishing leadership team and Dr. Jianzhong (Jeff) Xi of Peking University share a comprehensive review of how to prepare and successfully publish an original scientific manuscript.

This short course includes an introduction to both official SLAS peer-reviewed journals, the Journal of Biomolecular Sciences (JBS) and the Journal of Laboratory Automation (JALA); typical organizational and submission standards for publishable scientific papers; common pitfalls; ethical expectations; research advice; and strategies to increase a published manuscript’s success.  In addition, there will be time for questions, answers and open discussion.
